You are cordially invited to attend the 2007 International Symposium on English & American Literature hosted by The College of English Language and Literature in Shanghai International Studies University. The theme of the Symposium is “Literature, Criticism and Culture”. The topics for discussion are as follows:

1.Modern tendencies, movements and schools in English & American literature

2.The interaction of English and American Literature in history

3.Important writers and their works

4.Literary criticism in the cross-cultural context

5.New issues of contemporary critical theories

6.Chinese culture and English & American literature

7.Studies of English & American literature in China

8.The teaching of English & American literature in Chinese & Foreign Universities.

The symposium will last 3 days from April 6 to April 8,2007,in the Conference Center of Shanghai International Studies University. Some well-known experts both at home and abroad will be invited to deliver keynote speeches (about 25 minutes each). Participants are expected to submit the titles and abstracts of the papers on the proposed topics or topics of your own interest . Papers submitted to the symposium will be selected for publication in due form.

Participants from home and abroad will pay for your own traveling fares and accomodation, plus a conference fee 600RMB. The working language of the symposium is English, but we will be honored to provide interpretation services for oversea participants during the conference at your request.

Once you have made your decision to attend the symposium , please send back the registration form (see below) as well as the title and abstract of your paper to the organizing committee by post, fax or e-mail before 31 Dec.,2006. We will send you a formal letter of invitation in January,2007.
